I find that the healthier I eat, the more beautiful my food becomes.
I tend do create a lot of dishes specifically to be photographed and then eat the leftovers, but lately I’ve been creating food to eat and finding it too beautiful to devour right away. Ten minutes and a mini photo-shoot later and I’m finally able to eat my creation. :) Sometimes my more favorite photographs come from food that was only supposed to be dinner but ended up looking like a work of art … and if there’s still daylight outside then I guarantee it will also end up in my portfolio, too.
The image on the right was photographed at 8:45 PM last night with the last bits of light coming through my window … don’t you love Summertime?
This salad is pretty simple … not really much of a recipe but I’ll give it a shot. For the dressing I mixed a little bit of olive oil with some tasty balsamic vinegar (I used a vanilla-fig flavored balsamic I got from Pike Place Market). I tossed it in with the arugula and raspberries and squeezed some fresh lemon juice to brighten it up a bit. Next time I make it I think I’ll add some sliced almonds and chèvre to beef it up, and maybe even some grilled chicken. Now I’m making myself hungry again.

That looks both delicious and photogenic!
Lovely images Nicole. Soft, delicate and full of summer.
I once heard that strawberries were the hardest food to photograph. Maybe that's because all that texture is encased within smooth, rounded edges. I'd guess its also about the difficulty associated with reproducing vivid, highly textured reds within a digital environment. Push the saturation too much and its buy buy texture.
I very much enjoy the TWIP podcasts.
Yes please!
Nicole, this is so beautiful and looks so yummy! Yes, I love summertime!!
Great shots and you leave me hungry…
Beautiful work!
Lovely images.
Om nom nom nom nom! Beautiful food, beautiful photo, beautiful girl!
Beautiful shots. They inspire me!
Hey Nicole,
these are beautiful shots (as always).
i’d like to aska question though,
since you’re using both, which lens is better (image quality) especially for tabletop shots like your food photos, 70-200 f2.8 or the new 100 macro?
I know, the primes are always good but, how’bout compared to 70-200?
I enjoyed your participation on Alex's show. Thanks for sharing your insights and expertise.
