Applying Analog Grunge borders using Photoshop

Adding an Analog Grunge border to a photo using Photoshop is simple and only requires a few steps.

Step 1: Open your photo in Photoshop

Open your image in Photoshop.

Step 2: Add the border file to your document

Drag-and-drop method:

  1. Open the folder of Analog Grunge borders so you can see both the folder and your photo in Photoshop.
  2. Then, drag and drop the border file you want to apply over the preview image in your Photoshop document.
  3. The border file will be added to your document as a Smart Object.

Menu method:

  1. Go to File > Place Embedded
  2. Navigate to the border file you want to apply, select it, and click Place.
  3. The border file will be added to your document as a Smart Object.

After placing your border file, you may need to resize or rotate your border so it fits your image. Use the cursor to fit the border on your image, and once you are finished, press the Return/Enter key on your keyboard (or click the checkbox in the Options bar at the top). to commit the changes.

The blue “X” over the image will disappear when you commit your changes, indicating that you are no longer transforming the layer.

Step 3: Change the blend mode to Multiply

In the Layers panel, check to ensure the border image is selected/highlighted.

Then, using the Blend drop-down at the top of the Layers panel, change the setting to Multiply. The white areas of the border will disappear, leaving the black and dark areas visible over your image.
