The new version of Luminar is available for preorders beginning today! I put together a short video below, highlighting some of the new features you will find in this version.

New features in Luminar 2018:

  • New design: This version comes with an updated interface, much more elegant and user-friendly.
  • Look Up Table (LUT) support: LUTs are similar to presets that can work in many different types of image-processing platforms, and Luminar 2018 is now compatible with these types of files! LUTs are commonly used in video editing and can be thought of as one-click presets that can be used to apply a range of settings with only one click and one filter. Think of them as Instagram filters. And, if you’re still confused, this video explains it all quite well.
  • Sun rays filter: This is a fun new filter that allows you to add sun rays in your images, and it is seriously cool. Watch my video below to see how you can apply this to a photo.
  • Dodge & Burn: This is a new filter that allows you to quickly intensify the brightness and darkness in specific areas of the photo.
  • Windows compatible: This version of Luminar is now Windows compatible! Please note that some features will not be in the Windows version at launch, but are promised to be added through free updates by the end of the year.
  • Digital Asset Manager (DAM) — Coming Soon!: While not yet available in this release, Skylum is working on a brand-new DAM that will be available as a free update to all users who purchase Luminar 2018 when it is available next year.

Plus, if you preorder today, you will get a free bonus preset pack from me! (It will be delivered directly from Skylum Software with your software download.) How cool is that?!

I’m really excited about this. Great introductory video. I’ve become unhappy with my current lightroom editing workflow. It’s become such an issue I’ve literally lost interest in photography because the thought of going through my images after the fact was disheartening. When I heard about DAM coming to Luminar it really piqued my interested. I hadn’t been that interested in the editing portion of Luminar but after watching your video I’m now excited for that as well! Super cool. Great interface. I can’t wait to learn more about the DAM coming soon! I’m going to pre-order this right now. Thanks!

Excellent! I’m excited for the DAM as well, it’s always good to have options!

I looked on their site but couldn’t find any info on Import features. Any insight on if it can handle Aperture libraries?

Hi Paul! Luminar does have a plugin for Apple Aperture, so yes, you can use it from Aperture.

    What is DAM?

    • Nicole S. Young November 1, 2017 at 5:39 pm - Reply

DAM = Digital Asset Management. Think the Lightroom Library view (cataloging files), ON1 Browse, etc. It’s software that allows you to organize and view your photos.

Dummy question: Does Luminar facilitate “normal” post production, like curves, sharpening, saturation, etc., etc.?

    • Nicole S. Young November 5, 2017 at 9:09 am - Reply

Yes, it does! It has many of the “standard” post-processing tools you would expect in an image processor, including the ones you listed above.

Hello Nicole, your excellent videos made me buy Skylum, Luminar 2018 and Aurora HDR 2018 products. I have been using PS with NIK filters and I know that Macphun will not disappoint me. I also bought the ON1 Photo Raw 2018 and I think I will use the two depending on what I want to obtain. I congratulate you on the way you make your comments and videos, my English is minimal, but with the help of a translator I’m moving forward. regards
