I hiked up Phnom Bakheng in Siem Reap, Cambodia last night with Brian Matiash to photograph the sunset, not exactly knowing what we would see. We have an awesome tour-guide who recommended it (and made the hike up with us) and when we got there it was, as I suspected, flooded with tourists. Not only that, but even though the sunset was beautiful, it wasn’t exactly photographable (there wasn’t any decent foreground, aside from a mob of tourists basically in the way of the good stuff).
So … I focused my attention on the tourists themselves.
Luckily for me the monks also make sight-seeing trips up to the temples and, like most of us, capture their own photographs along the way. I saw this monk climb up on some stone with his camera with the sun still setting behind him and knew exactly what to do.

Wow, awesome shot, thanks for sharing
Brilliant. Perfect use of the sunset. This will be a better reminder than what all the tourists will look at again when they view their photos from the journey once home. <3

taking lemons and making lemon-aid! greatimage that tells the story!
Cool shot and story. Just because your first idea may be dashed, don't give up. There is always something, to quote Lemony Snickets.
My apologies to the monk, but the first thing I thought was Alfred Hitchcock was back.
I agree with +Jan Kabili. My first thought was Alfred Hitchcock.
what always interesting to watch is your "photographer eye"… how many times when we finished shooting and them we realized that we missed this kind of shot… this is a great inspiration…
Great photo. Keep them coming so we can live vicariously through your eyes.
