In honor of #WaterfallWednesday I thought I’d share a “before and after” of an image from Ruckel Creek Falls along the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. I love the CRG, it’s so peaceful and calm. Plus it’s fresh air and beautiful scenery … I have a feeling that I’ll be spending a LOT of time there in the next several years.

Here’s another image from that same location (http://bit.ly/Nb5xeB) and here’s a behind-the-scenes that Brian Matiash took of me getting my feet wet in the stream (http://bit.ly/Qf1jH7).

Processing Info: I did most of the editing in Lightroom, such as basic tonal adjustments and tweaking the saturation a bit (mostly just the greens and yellow channels). I also did a teensy bit of split-tone to give the water a subtle hint of blue. Then I took it into Photoshop to do a bit of dodging and burning, as well as some cloning to get rid of a sensor spot and a small branch I didn’t like in the scene.

You're just sitting on some rock, relaxing, figuring, "I guess I'll take a photo", right?

    Beautiful photo.

Why didn’t you just move the branch if it bothered you?

    • Nicole August 1, 2012 at 8:26 pm - Reply

In this case, it would have required a lot of work to get to the branch (and would have likely ended up with me slipping on rocks and getting soaked). Plus, it was probably connected to something. :)
